What Are Machine Vision Systems?

Machine vision systems — also called image inspection systems or camera-based inspection systems — use computer vision techniques to guarantee conformity (quality) across 100% of products or process output, and to transmit data for real-time action.
Additionally, production data acquisition supports index evaluation aligned with the Industry 4.0 concept.
Machine vision can inspect, control or measure:
- Process parameters;
- Product dimensions;
- Colors or features in other frequency bands (visible spectrum (VIS), near-infrared (NIR), short-wave infrared (SWIR), mid-wave infrared (MWIR), long-wave infrared (LWIR), ultraviolet (UV), X-ray or gamma-ray);
- Character or code reading;
- Metrology and dimensional correlation; and
- Shapes and appearance, including profile analysis.

Machine Vision System - Propertech ProVision.

ProVision is the machine vision system — also called a visual inspection system or vision machine — developed by Propertech. It incorporates the latest processing techniques, optical assemblies and interface tools to learn new models and adjust parameters. The customer sets the requirements without being locked into an off-the-shelf solution or dependent on a foreign vendor.
We develop the complete application domestically, aiming for the best technical-cost-performance ratio using:
- Smart cameras from Cognex with In-Sight Explorer, Matrox IrisGTR, Teledyne Dalsa BOA, Keyence Vision Systems, Roseek Woodpecker1;
- Image processing software such as Cognex VisionPro, Matrox Design Assistant, Adaptive Vision Studio / Library and open-source libraries such as OpenCV;
- Optics and line-scan or area-scan cameras, in a range of resolutions and spectral bands as required;
- Illuminators and special optics.

Vision System for Metrology

ProVision - Pick and Place Metrology System

Developed by Propertech in line with Industry 4.0: the measurement JIG is fed by an XYZG robot and measures 13 direct features (dimensions and diameters) and relational features (true position), with base repeatability of ± 2 µm and auto-calibration compensating for temperature variation.

Features:
- Accurate, real-time, traceable data for process assurance and trend evaluation;
- Suited to machining/assembly lines and final inspection at shipping;

Vision System for High-Speed Inspection

ProVision - High-Speed Inspection System

Inspects 100% of products directly on the production line, locating each product by pattern matching and calculating a real-time conformity score, with automatic reject signaling for non-conforming products.

Features:
- Inspects more than 40 products per second, keeping pace with high-throughput lines;

Vision System for Oil Seals

ProVision - Oil Seal Inspection System

Developed with VisionPro software: a manipulator feeds the seal ring into station 1 and, after inspection, transfers it to station 2, flipping the ring over — three high-resolution line-scan cameras evaluate the main, auxiliary, deflector and lateral seal lips.

Features:
- Evaluates 1 seal every 2 seconds;
- Results presented graphically;
- Tolerances parameterized for the various seal types.

ProVision - Valve Inspection System

Measures 100% of the channels and tip topology of the valve during production, using a special optical system to illuminate and capture images and ensure the controlled dimensions of automotive valves.

ProVision - Glass Inspection System

Detects defects such as pinholes, scratches, streaks and stains on surfaces, identifying, locating and measuring each defect with 0.1% precision relative to the field of view.

Features:
- Stitches a full-frame image from sequential captures, evaluated against pre-established criteria (max. allowed defects, minimum distance between defects);

Vision System for Tubes

ProVision - Tube Inspection System

ProTube measures external and internal diameter and the density of the gas generant charge (propellant) inside the air bag inflator's plastic tube — parameters critical to uniform burn and deployment safety.

Features:
- Complete optical system (camera, lens, filters and illuminators);
- Touchscreen monitor for inspection and electrical interface;
- Resolution of ~33 μm/pixel, at up to ~100 m/min;

ProVision identifies the engine with a CCD camera, signals the correct gasket in the parts bin and, after it's picked up and placed on the engine, confirms with a second camera that the correct gasket was installed.

Vision System for Chassis

ProVision - Chassis Inspection System

Inspection system that evaluates the final assembled unit, checking presence, dimensions and reference points, composed of a RACK and a mobile imager.

Features:
- Checks presence/absence of components, fasteners and welds;
- Measures coordinates between mounting holes and references, at ±0.1 mm resolution;
- Detects trends and alerts for repetitive failures, with on-site rework;
- High speed (~½ chassis/minute), travel range of ~1 to 20 meters, with serial label generation.
